GREAT LAKES, Ill. (March 15, 2018) Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano (back left) observes abandon ship training in the USS Indianapolis Combat Training Pool at Recruit Training Command (RTC), March 15. Abandon Ship is a Navy skill recruits are required to learn during their time at the Navy’s only boot camp. MCPON was on hand at RTC to see changes in the curriculum to more intensive hands-on training. RTC is approximately eight weeks and all enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their careers at the command. Training includes physical fitness, seamanship, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control along with lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork and discipline.
