180315-N-IK959-089 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (March 15, 2018) Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano, left, talks with Rear Adm. Mike Bernacchi, commander of Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) about new training at Recruit Training Command (RTC). MCPON was on hand at RTC to see changes in the curriculum to a more intensive hands-on training. The training includes line-handling and seamanship on board USS Marlinspike Basic Seamanship Trainer. RTC is approximately eight weeks and all enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their careers at the command. Training also includes physical fitness, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control along with lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork and discipline. (U.S. Navy photo by Scott A.
