180110-N-IY633-004 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Jan. 10, 2018) Recruits practice removing M-50 gas masks during basic Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense (CBR-D) training at the USS Chief training facility at Recruit Training Command (RTC). Recruits practice CBR-D through hands-on learning, which means recruits will ‘train how we fight’. USS Chief’s staff of subject matter experts spend several days training recruits, covering topics ranging from basic damage control equipment to advanced shipboard firefighting techniques. About 30,000 to 40,000 recruits graduate annually from the Navy’s only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Amanda S. Kitchner/Released)
