180102-N-TP834-033 GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (Jan. 2, 2018) Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate Gabriel Alvizo monitors the future San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27), as it is maneuvered into position at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB) for a brief fuel stop. The ship is currently on its way to home port in San Diego, and is scheduled to be commissioned in its namesake city of Portland, Oregon in April. NSGB is the Navy’s strategic logistics installation for routine, contingency, humanitarian, counter-narcotic and migrant operations in the Caribbean; providing high quality of life while preserving environmental, historic and cultural resources.
