McCain (DDG 56) and a current New York City fireman, passes a basketball to Yeoman 1st Class Latasha Carr, attached to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), during the Hoops for Troops tribute at a break in the action during a New York Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden, Nov. 10, 2019. The ceremony honored Veterans Day. Carter Hall is in port to celebrate Veterans Day through Monday. While in port, Sailors and Marines assigned to Carter Hall will host ship tours for the public, pay tribute to veterans of all generations, attend sporting events and march in New York City’s Veterans Day Parade. This year, the Veterans Day celebration will commemorate the centennial of the holiday, established in 1919 as Armistice Day. It commemorated the anniversary of the end of World War I and was officially renamed to Veterans Day in 1954. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Bryan Ilyankoff/Released)
