191023-N-AW818-492 NAVAL SUPPORT FACILITY REDZIKOWO, Poland (Oct. 23, 2019) U.S. Ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher visits Naval Support Facility (NSF) Redzikowo and the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System (AAMDS) site in Poland, Oct. 23, 2019. Capt. Jon Grant, right, commander of NSF Redzikowo, hosted the Ambassador for her first visit to the Navy’s newest installation. Commander of AAMDS Poland, Cmdr. Joshua Lewis, left, describes how Sailors operate in teams of 11 people and will stand 12-hours shifts when the site becomes fully operational sometime in late 2020. Mosbacher met with program managers from Missile Defense Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during her visit and toured the facilities that will house Sailors when completed. The new base will be home to approximately 200 Sailors who will work on the installation and at AAMDS under NATO when fully operational. Once construction is completed, the Aegis Ashore site in Poland will expand a defensive capability that protects NATO European territories, populations and forces against ballistic missiles launched from outside the Euro-Atlantic region.
