Fountain, former executive officer of the submarine, received the artifacts from the Scorpion crew in 1968 on his departure from the submarine, six months before the boat was declared “presumed lost.” NHHC, located at the Washington Navy Yard, is responsible for the preservation, analysis, and dissemination of U.S. naval history and heritage.
