HONOLULU (Sept. 25, 2019) Sailors assigned to Navy Region Hawaii conduct a funeral for U.S. Navy Watertender 1st Class Edwin McCabe, from Newport, North Carolina, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept. 25, 2019. More than 400 U.S. service members attended McCabe's funeral. McCabe was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma (BB-37), which sustained fire from Japanese aircraft and multiple torpedo hits causing the ship to capsize and resulted in the deaths of over 400 crew members during the Dec. 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. McCabe was recently identified through DNA analysis by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s (DPAA) forensic laboratory and returned to his family for burial with full military honors. DPAA’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting of missing personnel to their families and the nation. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd class Seth Coulter/Released)
