190914-N-SY153-0012 SAN DIEGO (Sept. 14, 2019) Chief selects burst through a banner during a chief petty officer (CPO) pinning ceremony at Naval Air Station North Island. Thirty Sailors assumed the rank of chief petty officer during the ceremony. The CPO pinning ceremony is a ceremony where newly promoted CPOs have their new rank insignia pinned on their uniforms. This event is the culmination of an intense six-week training period where the Navy's senior enlisted leaders introduced the CPO selectees to a set of challenges designed to strengthen their leadership and mentoring abilities.
