190910-N-TE695-0006 NEWPORT, R.I. (Sept. 10, 2019) Students from Officer Candidate School (OCS) class 17-19 take the second class swimmer test at the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Combat Training Pool, Sept. 10, 2019. The test consists of a deep water jump, 100 yard swim demonstrating 25 yards each of the crawl, stroke, breast stroke, side stroke and elementary backstroke. Immediately after the completion of the swim, without leaving the water, students will prone float (face down) for 5 minutes and transition to a back float before exiting the water. OCS develops civilians and fleet Sailors into newly commissioned offers morally, mentally, physically and imbue them with the highest ideals of honor, courage and commitment in order to prepare graduates for service in the fleet as Naval officers.
