190902-N-NL576-516 ADAK, Alaska (Sept. 2, 2019) Sailors assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One (MDSU) 1, explain diving equipment to school children on the island of Adak, Alaska, during Arctic Expeditionary Capability Exercise 2019. MDSU 1 was in Adak dismantling the F/V Heritage, an abandoned vessel that has blocked the island's small boat ramp for over 15 years. MDSU 1 is the U.S. Navy's premier diving and salvage force, prepared to rapidly deploy combat-ready, expeditionary warfare capable, specialized dive teams to conduct harbor and waterway clearance, emergent underwater repairs, and salvage operations in all environments.
