Chief’s participation marked the first time a U.S. Navy ship has been part of the annual summer festival held at Sasebo Port. This year celebrates the festival’s 15th anniversary and the 130th anniversary of Sasebo as a naval port. Formerly an Imperial Japanese Navy base and shipyard, Sasebo is home to Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Sasebo District. Chief is forward-deployed to CFAS.
