190426-N-CL765-1012 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (April 26, 2019) Lt. j.g. Michael Kelly, right, a naval flight officer, and Naval Aircrewman (Operator) 2nd Class David Burk, attached to Patrol Squadron (VP) 40, examine the sensor three station during an anti-submarine warfare flight in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. VP-40 is deployed to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security. VP-40 is the last active-duty squadron to fly the P-3C Orion aircraft and after this deployment will transition to the P-8 Poseidon.
