190416-N-ND850-302 ROCKPORT, Texas (April 16, 2019) Operations Specialist 1st Class Patricia Flock (left) of San Jose, Calif., assigned to Navy Recruiting Station (NRS) Portland and Operations Specialist Seaman Shade Canfield of San Antonio, assigned to USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), monitor a student participating in the Pull-up Challenge as part of America's Navy's Virtual Reality Experience, the NIMITZ, at Rockport-Fulton High School. The experience started with registration, a mission briefing, donning on rumble packs and virtual reality headsets, and immersion into the mission. The mission consisted of a virtual high-speed water extraction of a Navy SEAL team pinned down under enemy fire. Once the students completed the mission, they were graded on how they responded to five separate mission commands. Recruiters assigned to NRS Portland where at the NIMITZ to spread Navy awareness and to pique students' interest about America's Navy. Flock, a 2007 graduate of San Benito High School in Hollister, Calif., and Canfield is a 2018 graduate of Ingleside High School. The NIMITZ is named after Fleet Adm. Chester Nimitz, a native of Fredericksburg, Texas, who commanded the U.S. Pacific Fleet during WWII. Navy Recruiting District San Antonio's area of responsibility includes more than 30 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
