190402-M-RP664-1034 GULF OF OMAN (April 2, 2019) Cpl. Haley Brunette, the recon and survey team leader with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, scans for gasses or vapors with a mulitRAE wireless, portable multi-gas monitor during recon and survey operations training in the well deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). The training maintains and sharpens the Marines’ skills at sensitive site exploitation and the use of Dismounted Reconnaissance Sets, Kits, and Outfits. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
