(March 2, 2019) Charlotte Riley, center, ship's sponsor of the Navy's newest littoral combat ship, USS Charleston (LCS 18), gives the order to man the ship and bring it to life during its commissioning ceremony. Charleston is the sixteenth littoral combat ship to enter the fleet and the ninth of the Independence variant.
