190218-N-KT659-1106 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Feb. 18, 2019) Aviation Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Julian Bernal Cortes, assigned to the Grey Knights of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46, removes a screw from a P-3C Orion anti-submarine warfare patrol aircraft during an inspection. VP-46 is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet and U.S. 7th Fleet areas of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in this region, VP-46 is supporting naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
