190126-M-QF372-1017 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Jan. 26, 2019) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Derrick Reinera assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), draws blood from a Marine before a mission aboard the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43). The blood is refrigerated and readily available in case of any emergency during the mission. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
