200509-N-DQ752-1034 PACIFIC OCEAN (May 9, 2020) Machinery Repairman 1st Class Shane Butterfield operates the milling machine aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Nimitz, along with Carrier Air Wing 17 and Destroyer Squadron 9, is underway conducting a composite unit training exercise (COMPTUEX). COMPTUEX is an intensive exercise designed to fully integrate units of the carrier strike group, while testing a strike group’s ability as a whole to carry out sustained combat operations from the sea.
