They will transport, members of the U.S. Army's 1st Area Medical Laboratory as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19. Members of the U.S. Army's 1st Area Medical Laboratory deployed to American Samoa in support of FEMA to enhance the efficiency and capacity of COVID-19 testing in the American territory. This specialized team will be essential in aiding the civil authorities' capability to identify and contain any potential community transmission of the disease, should it make its way to the remote island chain.
