The PHU is designed for symptomatic patients transferred from area hospital emergency departments with pending COVID-19 test results. Physicians, nurses, hospital corpsmen and other medical professionals provided by the Navy in support of the COVID-19 response man these units. This group of specialized Sailors make up the Expeditionary Medical Facility New Orleans Detachment. The EMF works in coordination with federal, state, and local health officials to ensure equipment and resources are in place and are operationally capable to safely treat patients. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, is providing military support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help communities in need.
