200329-N-KM072-003 KEY WEST, Fla. (March 29, 2020) The freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Detroit (LCS 7) enters Naval Air Station (NAS) Key Wests Truman Harbor during a port visit to conduct emergent repairs. As a protective measure against the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the ships crew of 90 will be limited to the base while in Key West in order to protect its people and maintain mission readiness. Navy installations are responsible for keeping airfields, ports, Navy housing, galley services, medical facilities, and utilities open and supporting our Fleet, fighters and their families. Detroit is deployed to the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility to support Joint Interagency Task Force South's mission, which includes counter-drug patrols and detection and monitoring of illicit traffic in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
