200113-N-ET019-1026 METRO MANILA, Philippines (Jan. 13, 2020) A local worker with the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) stands clear of an excavator as it backfills an empty grave after a disinterment at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Philippines, Jan. 13, 2020. Personnel from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) worked in conjunction with ABMC to exhume the remains from 15 graves as part of DPAA’s effort to identify personnel who died during WWII. DPAA’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting of our missing personnel to their families and the nation.
