200107-N-TE695-1001 NEWPORT, R.I. (Jan. 6, 2019) Students with Officer Candidate School (OCS) class 08-20 at the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Combat Training Pool at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), in Newport, Rhode Island, take the third-class swimmer test, Jan. 7, 2020. The test consists of jumping from a 10-foot tower into the pool to simulate abandoning ship, five minutes of floating in the prone position, coverall inflation, and a 50-yard swim. OCS develops civilians and fleet Sailors into newly-commissioned officers morally, mentally, physically and imbued with the highest ideals of honor, courage and commitment for service in the fleet as naval officers.
