Andrews, Air Force Base (AFB), Md. (August 5, 2005) - Members of the 89th Aerial Port Squadron (APS), Andrews AFB, and 32nd APS Air Reserve Squadron, Pittsburgh, Pa., prepare to load Deep Drone 8000 onto a C-17 Globemaster III from Charleston, South Carolina. The U.S. Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) is deploying a Deep Drone 8000 Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), capable of operating at a depth up to 8000 feet. The Deep Drone 8000 has a target locating sonar and two tool manipulators capable of working with tools and attaching rigging. The Navy and Air Force are transporting Deep Drone in an effort to assist the rescue of seven Russian Sailors trapped on the ocean floor in a mini-submarine off the Kamchatka Peninsula.
