SURVIVAL, EVASION, RESISTANCE AND ESCAPE (SERE) IS A COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR U.S. MILITARY PERSONNEL, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CIVILIANS AND PRIVATE MILITARY CONTRACTORS. IT EQUIPS THEM WITH ESSENTIAL SKILLS TO SURVIVE AND EVADE CAPTURE IN CHALLENGING SCENARIOS. SERE TRAINING COVERS TOPICS SUCH AS WILDERNESS SURVIVAL, ESCAPE TECHNIQUES, RESISTANCE TO INTERROGATION AND EVASION TACTICS BEHIND ENEMY LINES. THE PROGRAM ORIGINATED DURING WORLD WAR II AND HAS SINCE EVOLVED TO PREPARE INDIVIDUALS FOR VARIOUS HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS AND SITUATIONS.

The students of sere school

Students who attend SERE school come from a wide variety of rates and backgrounds. Pilots, Flight Officers, Intelligence officers, Air Crew, Special Warfare and others deemed high risk of capture are just some of who SERE is designed to train.

At sere school, students undergo evolutions to acquire and hone vital skills. these exercises test their ability to utilize available land and resources.

students learn different methods to make a fire in wild, and learn how to use it to boil water, cook food and signal for rescue.

students must use techniques to successfully navigate the difficult terrain around them while avoiding fatigue and disorientation.

students must learn to build a shelter that offers protection from the elements while not giving away their location.

Students are stripped of their ability to see, and must overcome a set of challenges relying solely on their other senses.

students must apply all of their training in this final scenario. protect the information, avoid capture and return home with honor.

The U.S. Navy has two sere locations: Rangeley, Maine and warner Springs, California
