PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 16, 2022) The U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyers JS Yamagiri (DD 152) and JS Ohnami (DD 111) break formation in the Philippine Sea. The U.S. Navy and JMSDF routinely conduct naval exercises together, strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance and maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
