U.S. Navy and Italian Navy Conduct First Indo-Pacific Multi-Large Deck Event Pacific

Damon Loveless, executive officer of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), and sideboys render honors to Rear Adm. Giancarlo Ciappina, commander, Cavour Carrier Strike Group, as he is piped aboard Abraham Lincoln. Ciappina visited Abraham Lincoln to focus on building interoperability during the first-ever bilateral Multi-Large Deck Event (MLDE) held in the Indo-Pacific by the United States Navy and Italian Navy. Abraham Lincoln, flagship of Carrier Strike Group Three, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
