PHILIPPINE SEA (June 13, 2021) From left to right, the dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42), the Japan Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) tank landing ship JS Shimokita (LST 4002), the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), the amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans (LPD 18) sail in formation with JMSDF landing craft, air cushions and Marine Corps MV-22B Ospreys, with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) during a bilateral exercise in the Philippine Sea, June 13, 2021. Bilateral exercises further demonstrate command control and interoperability between allies ultimately enhancing future operations. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
